Monetary Targets—Their Contribution to Policy Formation

by Lawrence Roos

The author concentrates on monetary policymaking as it is conducted in the United States, with specific attention given to monetary aggregate targeting. He first describes, however, the process of monetary policymaking in the United Kingdom and some of the problems inherent in that process and then offers recommendations for changes to alleviate at least some of the present causes of economic instability.
