Grain Export Quotas: The Short View and the Long

Exports of feed grains have risen sharply in recent years and accounted for 43.7 million tons or 20% of total usage last year. Such exports were up 50% from the 1972 level and 150% from 1971. As a consequence of the sharp decline in the quantity of feed grain available and the prospects for large exports again this year, proposals have been made to establish export quotas.
