Branching, Holding Companies, and Banking Concentration in the Eighth District

Bank expansion through branching and bank holding company acquisitions has been the subject of nationwide discussion in recent years. Pressure has come from larger banks for fewer restrictions on branching and bank holding companies. The smaller banks have generally resisted such pressure and at the same time have- pressed for greater restrictions on bank holding companies.
