The Federal Budget and Stabilization Policy in 1968

by Keith M. Carlson

The federal budget and the Economic Report of the President are presented to Congress and the public early each year. Together they can be viewed as a national “economic plan” in the spirit of the Employment Act of 1946. The purpose of this article is to summarize and analyze the economic plan for 1968. Emphasis is placed on fiscal actions required to achieve the goals of high employment with relative price stability and equilibrium in the balance of international payments.
