March's Employment Situation

On April 7, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the unemployment rate declined 0.2 percentage points to 4.5 percent in March. Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 98,000, and the labor force participation rate was unchanged at 63%. The largest sector gains occurred in professional and business services (+56,000 jobs) and mining (+11,000 jobs). The retail trade sector lost 30,000 jobs. See the full summary here.
