March's Employment Situation
On April 5, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that total nonfarm payrolls increased by 196,000 in March. The largest sector gains occurred in health care (+49,000), professional and technical services (+34,000), and food services and drinking places (+27,000). The unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.8 percent. The BLS also revised January's total nonfarm payrolls up from +311,000 to +312,000 and February's total nonfarm payrolls up from +20,000 to +33,000.
