What Do Teachers' Real Wages Look Like Across the Country?

Teacher strikes in the news have attracted attention to issues in teacher pay. Research in a recent Economic Synposes adjusts teacher wages across the country for differences in cost of living and compares the relative purchasing power of teacher pay in different states. While adjusting for cost of living erases some differences, teachers' "real wages" in states like Colorado and Oklahoma are still much lower than teacher wages in other states.
