The FRED Blog: Unemployment Insurance Requirements
When a worker is unemployed, local unemployment insurance can bridge the gap between jobs. However, being unemployed does not guarantee that you'll receive benefits from your local unemployment insurance program. Often there are eligibility criteria, such as previous work requirements, waiting periods, eligibility periods, and asset tests. Political choices behind these criteria can be stringent.
