FRED Blog: Manufacturing Productivity
Recently, the FRED Blog examined the data behind manufacturing productivity. After declining in the years leading up to the Great Recession, employment has been on the uptick. During the Great Recession, productivity declined along with employment. Starting in the late 2000s, productivity increased slightly, but there has been no progress since about 2010. Theories on this shift include a lack of technological progress or, more likely, a change in the composition of the manufacturing workforce toward lower-productivity work. Read the full post here.
