February's Employment Situation
On March 9, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that total nonfarm payroll increased by 313,000 jobs in February, the largest single-month gain since July 2016. The unemployment rate remained at 4.1 percent for the fifth month in a row. Construction (+61,000), retail trade (+50,000), professional and business services (+50,000), manufacturing (+31,000), and financial activities (+28,000) saw the largest sector gains.
The BLS also reported revisions to previously reported data. December's payroll unemployment numbers revised up, from +160,000 to +175,000, and January's numbers revised up from +200,000 to +239,000. Read the full report here.
