December's Employment Situation
On January 4, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that total nonfarm payrolls increased by 312,000 in December. The largest sector gains occurred in health care (+50,000), food services and drinking places (+41,000), and construction (+38,000). The unemployment rate rose to 3.9 percent. The BLS also revised October's total nonfarm payrolls up from +237,000 to +274,000 and November's total nonfarm payrolls up from +155,000 to +176,000. Read the full report here.
