Dissertation Intern Program The Research Division offers dissertation internships to Ph.D. students writing in the areas of monetary economics, macroeconomics, banking or applied microeconomics. The purpose of the internship program is to encourage and support important research on topics that are of interest to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Funding is available for up to two students. The period of the internship is flexible; however, normally students will be expected to be in residence for 8 to 12 weeks. Internships carry a stipend of $950 per week. In addition, the Bank will pay one round-trip airfare [or the equivalent] between the student’s principal residence and St. Louis. The Bank also will furnish office space, computer and technical support and some analyst and secretarial support. Interns will pay their own living expenses. Interns are expected to make significant progress on their dissertation while at the Bank and are expected to make one formal presentation during their stay. Applications are open to Ph.D. students from all Ph.D.-granting colleges and universities. Applicants must have passed their qualifying examinations and must be at the dissertation stage of their program. Applicants must send a curriculum vitae, their dissertation proposal, and a brief letter from their principal academic advisor commenting on the applicant’s potential for producing a high-quality dissertation, the importance of the topic to the profession and the progress that has been made to date. Positions for 2008 have been filled. Applications for 2009 will be considered starting in December 2008. |
