Challenges to Public Education Financing Facing Missouri and the NationNovember 4, 2005 The Research Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and the Weidenbaum Center at Washington University in St. Louis co-hosted a one-day symposium on public education finance on November 4, 2005. Proceedings from the conference have been published in the March 2006 Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Regional Economic Development. This non-technical symposium included sessions on public education funding formulas and the relationship between funding and student achievement. There was considerable discussion of these issues as they relate to Missouri and of the current public education financing debate occurring in the state. Participants included nationally recognized scholars in the areas of school finance and accountability as well as several Missouri public school superintendents and Missouri state legislators.
